Roma Spirit Award Kicks Off Its 16th Edition!

For the sixteenth time, the public has the opportunity to nominate inspiring individuals, stories, and activities for the Roma Spirit Award that contribute to the development of Roma communities and mutual respect. The public can submit nominations for the award until September 6.

The new edition of the award was launched with a press conference at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Bratislava. Roma Spirit 2024 is announced by the Association for Culture, Education, and Communication, the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities, and RTVS. The event is under the patronage of public defender of rights, Róbert Dobrovodský.

“Roma Spirit annually showcases examples that Roma are an equal part of the economic, social, and cultural life of Slovakia,” said Magdaléna Rothová, director of the Association for Culture, Education, and Communication, a co-announcer of Roma Spirit. “The Roma Spirit Award is about gratitude and recognition, but also about inspiring others who want to contribute to a better future for everyone,” she added.

“Roma Spirit is an example of effective cooperation,” said Alexander Daško, the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities. “Roma Spirit recognizes people, organizations, and companies that help Roma integrate into social life,” he added.

The Roma Spirit Award once again draws attention to individuals, organizations, media, municipalities, and employers who, through their activities and projects, provide effective and functioning solutions to the challenges of Roma communities and mutual coexistence.

The public can submit nominations for individuals, teams, activities, or exceptional deeds via an online application form available on the website www.romaspirit.sk.

From all received applications, the Preparatory Committee will select 21 finalists for Roma Spirit 2024. The winners will be determined by an international Expert Jury and the Act of the Year Jury. The awards ceremony will take place on November 23 at the Slovak Radio. The host city for Roma Spirit 2024 is Bratislava, and the partner for the Non-Governmental Organization category is the Carpathian Foundation.

Roma Spirit is a public award highlighting inspiring stories and activities that bring solutions to the challenges faced by Roma communities and our entire society.

Since 2009, Roma Spirit has been creating a community and space for the development of intercultural dialogue. Each year, Roma Spirit presents 21 exceptional stories that provide effective and functioning solutions to the challenges faced by Roma and our entire society.

Over the past editions, 2,110 exceptional stories, individuals, activities, and projects have been nominated for the Roma Spirit Award. Over fifteen years, we have had the honor of recognizing 98 laureates of the award.
