Within the framework of the ROMDIEM project, an activity was implemented focusing on linking academic research with the authentic experiences of people whose families were affected by the Roma Holocaust.
As part of this activity, seven in-depth interviews were conducted with experts whose expertise covers a broad range of topics. The interviews focused on the history of Roma communities, the specific characteristics of the Roma Holocaust in Slovakia, as well as issues of social exclusion and work with marginalised groups in the present day.
The expert consultations contributed to the identification of gaps in the education system regarding teaching about the Roma Holocaust and to an analysis of the reasons why the topic of Samudaripen remains only marginally present in public discourse in Slovakia.
ROMDIEM is funded by the European Union programme CERV-2024-CITIZENS-REM (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values – Citizens’ Remembrance). The project will run from March 2025 to February 2027, building on the EU’s long-standing commitment to strengthening historical memory, education and social inclusion.
