International Paper Symposium

Between 1995 and 2003 as one of our cultural projects we organized International Paper Symposiums in the Northern Slovak Paper Factory in Ružomberok. One of the objective was to allow international confrontation of artists and fine arts in Slovakia with regards to international trends. 79 artists from 13 countries attended the symposiums.

The International Paper Symposium was a continuation of theTextile Symposia held in 1990 and 1995. Thanks to long-term cooperation with The Northern SlovakPaper Factory suitable working conditions were successfully created. In 1998 we established permanent deposit of works of art in the factory.

The International Paper Symposiums in Ružomberok received lots of international response and the number of visitors is testament to its success – which was something that increased our future options. One important fact was that the creations of Slovak artists from the symposium were presented internationally – in 1998 at the Haus am Kleistpark Gallery in Berlin and the Lehigh University Gallery in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA.

The International Paper Symposiums in addition to providing an international platform also provided large material options which often stimulated new individual approaches on the part of the creators – in a broader sense influenced the development of creative products in Slovakia and had an international span.

The following (among others) have participated at the international paper symposiums:
